Puerto Rican Drug Bust

CNN reports,  according to the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Caribbean Division along with the Justice Department, 158 arrests were made in conjuction with the largest drug and illegal weapons bust in Puerto Rican history.  500 agents and local officals worked to secure the apprehension of drug ring leaders, runners, suppliers and sellers.  This operation will rid the west coast in the small Caribbean Island of the most hard core and major drug traffickers in Puerto Rico. 

The defendants were charged with the attempt to distribute and sell marijuana, crack, cocaine, heroin, as well as, the possession of firearms.  If convicted the defendants could spend up to life in prison and pay fines up to $4 million dollars.  Most of the arrest were made near public housing complexes located near schools and sports facilites.  The area of the arrests is where a major sporting event would be taking place where as many as 300,000 spectators would be in attendance.

Heroin Addiction in Tennessee

In a recent report done by News Channel 9 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a heroin drug ring was dismantled and saved from being sold on the streets and injected into the arms of heroin drug addicts.  This latest drug bust leads many to ask the question-Is there a heroin problem in Chattanooga?  Because heroin is inexpensive, one can purchase heroin for $20 to $60 depending on the amount used, makes the opiate one of the most commonly used drugs.  Heroin can be snorted or smoked, however, injecting the drug is what most addicts prefer.

Seized Illegal Narcotics

According to CNN.com, California authorities siezed $45 million dollars worth of illegal drugs found in a tractor trailer.  The San Bernardino sheriffs office reports that during the investigation of the traffic violation, they noticed a “overwhelming odor”  coming from the pallets in the back of the truck.  Upon futher investigation the sheriffs officials discovered ”about 20 tons of narcotics stashed in pallets in the back of the truck, including about 38,000 pounds of marijuana, 2,700 pounds of cocaine and 67 pounds of methamphetamine, the sheriff’s office said in a statement,”  which resulted in was one of the largest narcotics bust in the counties history.

Hitting rock bottom

It is said that one will not get help until they have reached the bottom. “The bottom” is different for all people, yet it is very much the same; the sufferer has to reach the bottom in order to climb to the top.  So, what does it mean to hit bottom? This is a moment of realization that the substance abuse has taken an embarassing turn for the worst.   This is the point when one has to make a life changing decision,  continue the substance abuse or confront it and reach out for help through addiction treatment.
