Over the past few years Atlanta suburbs have become the home to the largest Mexican Drug Cartel in the U.S. for illegal drug distribution.

Gulf Drug Cartel

Over the past few years Atlanta suburbs have become the home to the largest Mexican Drug Cartel in the U.S. for illegal drug distribution. Because of the close proximity of Atlanta to major interstate connections it is easy for these “terrorist” to set up drug distribution centers which enable their drug trafficking efforts to reach other major cities throughout the country.

Among the major cities in the United States, Atlanta is the city which brings the most money with an estimated profit of $70 million dollars in drug trafficking in 2008 alone. Atlanta is home to two major Mexican drug cartels, the Gulf and Sinaloa. Recently, the Gulf drug cartel and the Los Zetas were in a major dispute over territorial rights of drug trafficking along the Gulf Coast where a plot to blow up the Falcon Dam along the Rio Grande was thwarted.

The drugs that are being trafficked into Atlanta are; marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. These drugs are then re-distributed to border states; Alabama, Tennessee, Carolinas, which then work their way to the mid-Atlantic states and New England states.

“The drug related violence in Atlanta has not yet spilled into the streets with the same intensity as in Mexico, but the authorities maintain it might be just a matter of time. Most recently, the Drug Enforcement Agency found a man in a basement of a Lilburn house, chained and handcuffed, starved and beaten, because he owed $300,000 to a Mexican drug lord.”

The efforts of these drug cartels can only be combated through drug addicts and families educating themselves on the severity of drug addiction and receiving the rehabilitative services of addiction treatment centers throughout Tennessee and Georgia.

If you or someone you know is suffering from addiction, our referral specialist will help guide you to an effective drug rehab. All communication is confidential. Call today or fill out the form on the Get Help page.

Sonny Perdue, Governor of Georgia, signed into law banning the marijuana substitute, K2. This new law bans the use and distribution of synthethic marijuana, in the state of Georgia. The law, H.B. 1309, places K2 on the schedule I controlled substance list along with Heroin and above Coaine, Ritalin and Opium which are schedule II substances. Created in the 1990s by a Clemson University organic chemist John W. Huffman, K2 mimicked the effects of cannabis on the brain.

“Side effects of the drug include rapid heart rate, very high blood pressure, hallucinations, seizures, vomiting and paranoia. K2 attacks cardiovascular and central nervous systems. It is used mostly by young people who are hoping for a marijuana-like high.”

There is a powerful force at work today against the citizens of Tennessee and Georgia that force is addiction. Addiction is defined as a strong tolerance to and dependence on something especially with drugs or alcohol. Thousands of residents in rural and urban settings throughout Tennessee and Georgia are dealing with a great dependence on the illegal drug of methamphetamine.

Meth has become, in many areas, the drug of choice for working moms and dads who live busy hectic lifestyles, enabling the user to remain highly aware and active. Adolescents are also finding meth appealing especially with teen age girls and women who want to use the drug as a method of weight loss. Unfortunately, the first time meth is either snorted, smoked or injected, the user is hooked. Addiction treatment centers throughout the state of Tennessee and Georgia report that the majority of their clients are seeking help because of their addiction to methamphetamine. The most effective drug rehabs are those that offer cognitive-behavioral interventions or the holistic approach to treatment.

One of the main reasons for such a high use of methamphetamine in Tennessee and Georgia is the close proximity to the Mexican border and the I-75 corridor than runs from Florida into the Midwestern parts of the country. This corridor through Georgia and Tennessee has become the main thoroughfare for drug trafficking, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

“Much of the methamphetamine consumed in the state is transported from Mexico and the southwest border states. Clandestine methamphetamine labs can be found everywhere in Tennessee, but are predominantly located in the Appalachian areas in Eastern Tennessee.

Mexican methamphetamine trafficking groups control much of the methamphetamine distribution in the Chattanooga area, but command and control for these Mexican organizations are frequently found in Dalton, Georgia. An increase in methamphetamine use and abuse is anticipated in Tennessee as the drug gains popularity over crack cocaine use. This trend is attributed to the highly addictive nature of methamphetamine, particularly Ice.”

Both Tennessee and Georgia have increased their fight against the use and distribution of methamphetamine with television and radio public service announcements. These 30 second PSA’s describe the effect the drug has on the individual, family, community and nation and can be found at; methfreetn.org and georgiamethproject.org. However, methamphetamine is not the trouble source in Tennessee and Georgia. Drugs such as, cocaine, crack, heroin, oxycontin and marijuana are crippling thousands of communities and their citizens.

If you or someone you know is suffering with an addiction to methamphetamine or any substance that is disabling the freedom to live a productive life, addiction treatment will provide the tools and education to help put one on the road to recovery and enable them to be successful in sobriety.

Our referral specialists will help guide you or your loved one to the drug rehab that is best suited to meet your needs. Make the call today to become drug free.

In Atlanta, Georgia, a teen age boy was hospitalized and fell into a coma....

K2-Marijuana Substitute

In Atlanta, Georgia, a teen age boy was hospitalized and fell into a coma; overdosing by smoking K2, a synthetic marijuana substitute. K2 has become a popular form for teens throughout Georgia, as well as, many other states. The herbal mixture of K2 is blue lotus, baybean and a number of other herbs. The danger in this is that the herbs are chemically altered which can cause adverse reactions as was the case in Atlanta.

“ K2 does not get its potent effects from these herbs, but from two synthesized cannabinoids that are added to the mixture. Synthetic cannabinoids are very closely related to tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the chemical in marijuana which causes users to get high. However, because the chemicals in K2 are slightly different than THC, they are not covered by existing drug laws”.

“Users of the drug say K2’s effects are almost identical to those of marijuana, but there are some slight differences. K2 produces less of a mental high and a much more notable body high than smoking marijuana. The effects are in some ways more similar to the high from eating marijuana rather than smoking it.”

There is no substitute for the high of life. Up’s and down’s of life will occur, but the quick fix of a high only detaines those feeling for a moment. Eventually one will have to either deal with life or continue to substitute. Chemicals only offer false reality and hope, legal or not. Addiction treatment can help reverse the need for a substitute and help you discover what life can offer free from drugs.
