Opiate Addiction

What are opiates?  Opiates come from the natural plant opium and processed from the latex sap of the opium poppy.  The drug was introduced as a pain reliever, sedative or as one definition describes opium,  “anything that causes dullness or inaction or that soothes the feelings.”  The drug and its derivitatives are used to dull or deaden feelings to pain and is commonly used in hospitals around the world.

Prescription pills has become the most commonly used drug in America.  With the easy access to pills such as;  OxyContin, Valium, Xanyx, Hydrocodone and Vicodine, obtained through avenues like the internet and pain management facilites, accompanied with the manipulative tactics of abuse, as evident in multiple emergency room visits and using several doctors in order to get scripts, it is easy to see how so many Americans are now addicted to pills.
