Heroin Addiction
What is at stake in your life because of drug addiction ? Family, wife, husband, children, friends, jobs, opportunity. The drug one is chasing becomes more important than any other pursuit, as the examples previously mentioned. Anyone who is in active addiction is putting more that these at risk, they are putting their own lives at risk. Substance abuse and disease should be of major concern for anyone who is closely involved with someone who is activly pursuing and using drugs. For instance, the spread of HIV/AIDS in the United States is fueled in part by the use of illicit drugs.

Over 20 million Americans are in active substance abuse. Education of disease and substance abuse in addiction treatment centers is one way of combating the spread of infectious disease. Through providing tools of living a successful life, some drug rehabs offer courses on how to communicate with others or how to obtain personal values and integrity. Addiction treatment offers more than opportunity to achieve clean time. There are opportunities to discover the reasons why one turns to drugs and alcohol to deal with ones life and provides services of how to continue living free from drug abuse.
Taking care of ones body is something that some people neglect, especially substance abusers. The injection of harmful drugs into ones body inhibits rational thinking and action. When bad actions occur, such as, using and sharing paraphernalia or having promiscuous sex, actions to get high will turn into a lifetime of regret.
