In Atlanta, Georgia, a teen age boy was hospitalized and fell into a coma; overdosing by smoking K2, a synthetic marijuana substitute.   K2 has become a popular form for teens throughout Georgia, as well as, many other states.  The herbal mixture of K2 is blue lotus, baybean and a number of other herbs.  The danger in this is that the herbs are chemically altered which can cause adverse reactions as was the case in Atlanta. 

 “ K2 does not get its potent effects from these herbs, but from two synthesized cannabinoids that are added to the mixture. Synthetic cannabinoids are very closely related to tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the chemical in marijuana which causes users to get high. However, because the chemicals in K2 are slightly different than THC, they are not covered by existing drug laws”. 

“Users of the drug say K2’s effects are almost identical to those of marijuana, but there are some slight differences. K2 produces less of a mental high and a much more notable body high than smoking marijuana. The effects are in some ways more similar to the high from eating marijuana rather than smoking it.”

There is no substitute for the high of life.  Up’s and down’s of life  will occur, but the quick fix of a high only detainees those feeling for a moment.  Eventually one will have to either deal with life or continue to substitute.   Chemicals only offer false reality and hope, legal or not.  Addiction treatment can help reverse the need for a substitute and help you discover what life can offer free from drugs.

What is an intervention?  An intervention is a process which is planned by friends and family members in order to help guide an addicted person to change their destructive behavior.   An intervention is accomplished by a group of friends and family members who set out to confront the addict about the danger of  addiction.  The process of an intervention is most effective because it is used as a motivator for the addict to see that those who care most about them are being hurt by their addictive behavior.  It is very important to note that when the intervention process is being planned that you seek the help of an intervention specialists who will guide you on the proper technique of having a successful intervention.  Have an addiction treatment center already lined up so that when the intervention is over you can drive the addict directly to the rehab.  Do not allow a moment to pass in getting the addicted person into treatment.  If there is any time lapse in the decision would make is possible for the addict to change their mind.  Be direct and act quickly.   It would be an effective sign to your loved one in regards to the seriousness of the intervention if their bags were packed and ready to go.  Also, do not be afraid to speak your mind and stand your ground.  An intervention will not succeed if you are more worried about the feelings of the addict rather than seeking addiction treatment for them.

My addiction to drugs lead me to a jail cell. It wasn’t until I hit rock bottom that iI realized that I had a problem. I called my mother and told her I needed help.
